Buffer is good software with a per-channel subscription. Social Quack is a Mac app you buy once: your accounts, keys and queue stay in a database on your Mac, Claude or ChatGPT plan and schedule your week, and six channels cost the same as one.

With 6 channels, Social Quack has cost less than Buffer from month 3 on.
Buffer's page shows $5 per channel per month billed yearly ($60 a year, “save 2 months”); the monthly-billed figure of $6 follows from that. Volume discounts start above ten channels.
What you keep when you switch
One payment. Buffer's Essentials plan is priced per channel: add a Threads account and the bill goes up; add a client's page and it goes up again. Social Quack has no per-channel price. Six channels, ten channels, one price.
Your own data. Buffer keeps your accounts and queue on its servers. Social Quack keeps them in a database on your Mac, encrypted, with a one-click backup you can move to another Mac. No company can rate-limit, suspend or close it.
Your own API limits. Buffer posts through its own shared developer apps. In Social Quack the developer app is yours for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X and Threads, so a problem with someone else's account is never your problem.
Claude or ChatGPT as your planner. Social Quack has a built-in MCP server. Tell Claude “plan a week of posts about our launch, one a day at 9am, include the weekend” and the queue fills up. Buffer has its own AI assistant and a Claude connector too; the difference is that in Social Quack the connection runs on your Mac with no account in between.
Threads, Bluesky and Mastodon included. Both tools post to them. Social Quack posts to Instagram, Facebook Pages, LinkedIn, X, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, TikTok and YouTube.
Workspaces. Separate brands or clients, each with its own channels and queue, in the same app.
When Buffer is the better choice
Be honest with yourself before you switch. Buffer is the right tool if:
Your Mac is not on when posts go out. Buffer publishes from its servers while your laptop is shut. Social Quack publishes from your Mac, so it has to be awake; a missed post is flagged for you to reschedule, never sent late.
You post from your phone or from several computers. Buffer has phone apps and runs in any browser. Social Quack is a Mac app, licensed for two Macs.
You need analytics, an engagement inbox or approval workflows. Social Quack schedules and publishes; it does not report, reply or route posts for approval.
You post to Pinterest or Google Business Profile. Social Quack does not, yet.
Three channels are enough. Buffer's free plan covers three channels with ten scheduled posts each, and that may be all you need.
Switching takes ten minutes
Install Social Quack. Download it, drag it into Applications, open it. It appears in your menu bar.
Connect your channels. Bluesky and Mastodon take a minute. For Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X and Threads the app walks you through creating your own free developer app, with the same steps as the guides on this site. TikTok and YouTube connect through Zernio in two clicks.
Connect Claude. One click in the menu bar installs Social Quack into Claude Desktop. ChatGPT and Cursor connect with one URL.
Move your queue. Copy the posts still waiting in Buffer, paste them into Claude, and say “schedule these in Social Quack, one a day at 9am”. Then cancel Buffer whenever you are sure.
Questions people ask before switching
Is it really one payment?
Yes. You pay $99 once, the licence unlocks the app on your Mac, and updates are included. There is no account with us to keep alive and nothing that stops working when you stop paying, because there is nothing to stop paying.
What happens to a post if my Mac is asleep when it is due?
Social Quack publishes from your Mac, so the Mac has to be awake and the app running. A post that misses its time by more than an hour is flagged in the Queue for you to reschedule; it is never sent late in a burst. Buffer posts from its own servers, so your laptop can be shut. If that matters more to you than owning the tool, Buffer is the better choice — see below.
Can I keep Buffer while I try Social Quack?
Yes. Nothing in Social Quack touches your Buffer account, and the platforms don't mind two tools. Run both for a week; if Social Quack is not for you, there is a 14-day refund.
Do I need to be technical?
No, but setup takes longer than Buffer's. Bluesky and Mastodon connect in a minute. Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X and Threads ask you to create your own free developer app once — ten to fifteen minutes each, following the guide for that platform inside the app and on this site. TikTok and YouTube connect through Zernio in two clicks. After that it is a normal scheduler.
Can Social Quack import my Buffer queue?
Not automatically. Copy the posts you still want to send, paste them into Claude Desktop with Social Quack connected, and say “schedule these, one a day at 9am”. Claude does the rest.
